Position:          Family Support Specialist

 

General Overview:

The Family Support Specialist is primarily responsible for providing family support assistance to families enrolled as participants in the PanZOu Project.

 

Essential Duties:

·         Responsible for the implementation of the Strengthening Families Program (SFP.)

·         Maintain weekly contact with parent and child enrolled in the SFP.

·         Will be responsible for recruiting and retaining families as participants in the SFP.

·         Maintain daily records of participant contact and documentation of all interaction.

·         Assist in linking families to services available in the community and other mainstream institutions

·         Participate and facilitate regular intervention team meetings

·         Maintains close and regular contact with probation, courts, youth custody officers, and other juvenile justice professionals as appropriate.

·         Provide case management as necessary.

·         Other duties will be assigned as project evolves.

Qualifications:College degree in social sciences preferred; An Associate degree with over 5 years of experience serving families in Outreach & Case Management may substitute for Bachelor’s Degree.  Must have knowledge and understanding of the gang culture in Miami is a plus.  Experience working with youth that have multiple risk factors and are considered a hard to reach population is a must. The individual must have good communication skills both written and oral. Additionally the candidate must be able to communicate with parents/ guardians and youth with an ability to foster relationships. The knowledge of local agencies, programs and services for youth and families is a major factor; however this can be explored if the candidate is exceptional. Must be able to work independently and have a strong work ethic. The candidate must also possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable automobile.   Computer skills and record keeping are necessary. You must be able to past a criminal background screening and drug screening. Fluent in Haitian Creole is a plus. This is a grant-funded position and may terminate at the end of the grant cycle.
